How could you not love this dog? He walked into work with me today and is sleeping right next to me as I record stuff. Awww.

OK, finally, an example of an HD movie from the Panasonic HDC-SD5 video camera. It’s a 3-CCD camera that records 1920×1080 HD video to SD card in AVCHD.
This isn’t a perfect example because it’s been edited in iMovie and exported as a 960×540 H.264 Quicktime movie. The original is higher resolution, but the size is too big to post. I suspect most people will end up using this size anyway.

As I’ve said before, I love this camera. It’s compact and takes excellent video. The optical image stabilization works very well. For example, in the video above, the sequence with the photographer and woman on the Vancouver bridge was shot handheld zoomed all the way out.
The camera doesn’t have a dedicated audio connector – so you’re stuck with the on camera audio, but it’s just right as a family camera. A really, really, high-quality family camera.

From Apple – Hot News, his Stevieness says…
Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. … It will take until February to release an SDK because we’re trying to do two diametrically opposed things at once—provide an advanced and open platform to developers while at the same time protect iPhone users from viruses, malware, privacy attacks, etc. This is no easy task. … P.S.: The SDK will also allow developers to create applications for iPod touch.
(Emphasis mine.) Hallelujah!

Dane Golden found this short film on YouTube by then student-filmmaker, Aaron Lubarsky that features an interview with me at KSFO from 1996. I have only a dim memory of doing the interview, but it’s very well done and holds up surprisingly well.

Thanks to Ben Freedman of Neo-Fight.tv for sending this along (he’s the guy on camera, by the way).

One more capture of roughly the same image. This time from the Panasonic SD5 HD video camera to compare it with the same picture from the N95 and iPhone in this post.
I’m still working on getting some (uncompressed) video from the camera online so you can check it out.

I’ve just learned that a long time participant on the Town Square forums and chat room has passed away unexpectedly. Jim Vestal of Yuba City, Jimmy777 or Narnia777 to his online friends, died last month at the very young age of 42.
There’s a memorial posting on his blog: The Jim Chronicles, from his friend Greg. Condolences to his family. We miss him in chat.

Are you right-brained or left-brained? Look at the picture of the dancer.

According to the Australian Herald Sun, if she seems to be spinning counter-clockwise you’re left-brained. Clockwise is right-brained. Some people can choose. Not me, I’m way right brained.
