I know I’m just falling for BMW’s viral marketing ploy, but I can’t help but admire the clever ad campaign they’ve created just for web junkies. If you like a good mystery, visit the Apple MPEG-4 page and click on the :k: link at the bottom. Just remember, like a polar bear in a snow storm, not all is as it seems.
Thanks to RyanR who pointed this out on the message boards. For bonus fun try Tron20.net. (Thanks to Tallyrus for that one.)

Well Leo, please leave the powerbook at home!
Also, I can only say that I’m extremely happy that Jessica (and the producers) chose the geek site that I sent in (the dancing freak) Your hopping about like a madman made me laugh out loud, and tonights show was a real ray of sunshine! It had it all! geek stuff that i needed to know (doing a linux install as soon as I get up the guts, annoyances, etc etc etc..) and sillyness (Lard.. er.. Lord Of The Dance, Loving Hands On Hardware, and Mummy Martin)
As the saying goes… Smile and the world smiles with you.
Also, You? Lard? Please! Eat 2 cartons of Cheetos and call me in the morning!
Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer! I sincerely hope the both of you enjoy your trip. Goodness knows, with all you’ve been doing lately Leo, you deserve some time off. As far as your Blog is concerned, put that in the back corner of your mind. Your Anniversary is far more important than we are
Have fun!

Leo,
Have a wonderful anniversary!
Rob
Leo,
First Happy Anniverary to you both! Second dont you dare bring that Powerbook with you. Nowadays anyone who reaches their 10th anniversary is rare, so enjoy it to the fullest. Spoil Jennifer senseless!! Forget about TechLive, Blogs, Columns, Kids, Powerbooks, and anything else going on at home like leaky faucets. Anniversaries are for two people and two people only. Once again a very happy anniversary and a blessed marriage.
(Charlotte)
Happy 10th big guy!
Happy Anniversary Leo Have a great weekend
Leo,
Happy Anniversary to you and Jennifer. Leave the computer at home and enjoy your self for once. All work and no play will make Leo a dull boy. I have to study for finals this weekend anyway so I can’t blog, so if you don’t post I will not notice. My parents Anniversary is on Sunday, 28 years. Have a great weekend and we will see you all on Monday.
PS: I am not sure but I think the time on the Home spy cam is wrong.

Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer! Have a great long weekend!
Leave the powerbook at home Leo!!!!
Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer.
Have fun and just forget about work for the weekend.
Take care and please don’t wear the “speedo” & keep on dancing.lol
Great show on 04/18/01…like always.
Have a wonderful, wonderful time and Happy Anniversary! I agree with everyone who mentions you should leave the computer home, it’ll be there when you get back. Enjoy the sun and fun! As for last night’s show, I really laughed out loud…. it was very funny, especially the delightful harware demo, I’m glad Pat didn’t hurt you too much… you both were wonderfully silly. My problem is, now I feel like the guy who didn’t know what Peeps were…. what the heck are caffeine mints? Anyone know? Are they like jolt cola for Tic Tacs? Or are they like a Junior Mint on steroids? I advise you leave those at home as well, Leo! :^) All the best, enjoy your time off. Elizabeth
Happy Anniversary!!!
You are as hard core as I am about computers so take the PowerBook and get the column done quickly. The reason I say this is that I’m betting that it’ll bother you not to have it near even if you don’t use it. Get your business done and out of the way, that way you can think about and give attention to what is really important in your life, not your job but the only thing we really have in life, the love of your family and friends. In this case the number one person in that group who’s been with you all the way.
Leo & Jennifer,
Happy 10th Aniversary to you both!! Yes Leo, definitly leave the Powerbook at home! It would be one of the best gifts you could give your wife! Trust me, I have been married for 19 1/2 years now, and when my husband gives me undivided attention with no distractions, I absolutely adore him!
When he remembers me with little romantic gifts, that is wonderful also. Do everything you can to make this a memorable occasion for her. You won’t regret it!
Caffeine Mints are just as the name implies – mints about the size of a life saver with same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. You can find them at thinkgeek.com (click El Pagina del Casa to get there).
Happy Anniversary Jennifer and Leo!
This couldn’t come at a better time. Relax and enjoy yourself.
Here’s a thought — if you must bring the laptop, just don’t bring the power adapter/cord. This way you are self-limiting your PC use to the capacity of your battery! Works even better if you leave it on. Have a wonderful time.
– Brandon
Leo,
Bring the power book! Jennifer won’t mind? You’re working!! Just don’t use it all that much… Have fun! HAPPY 10TH!!

Well, let me just be another one . . .
Happy Anniversary Leo!
Cool and good for you for taking a bit of time off to enjoy it. As for taking the Powerbook, it’s my suspicion that after 10 years your wife is well used to you camping out on the ‘puter. (Honeeeeeeeyyyy? Are you coming to bed?) It might be a nice exercise to try to go without it. Otherwise try the excellent suggestion to go without the the AC cord.
I loved last night’s show, including the world’s fastest Linux install (I almost had to take a Dramamine). Martin is just about as funny as you can get. And geeks in Speedos? Zowie – what girl could resist that? Plus, we can clearly see that it was your dancing skills that first caught Jennifer’s attention.
Googolplex Smooches,

Happy anniversary Leo and Jennifer. Have a good trip.
HAPPY 10TH LEO

Ooops, sorry to waste 2 post spaces, the above was supposed to be like a banner, a space between every letter and 2 spaces between words to separate to make the post look big. Happy 10th Leo and Jennifer!
Leo,
“Happy Anniversary to you,
Happy Anniversary to you,
Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer,
Happy Anniversary to you!” — Edith Bunker on Mike and Gloria’s anniversary (I edited the names, of course). I just can’t do the Edith voice.
All the best! I hope you two will grow old together and sit on the front porch rocking in your chairs. I can’t help it; I live Georgia, we all think married people should do that!
Joseph
Happy Anniversary to you and your wife. Leave the powerbook at home…take the Caffeine Mints with you..and dance all night.

Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer!
i ditto what everone is saying!
She is one special lady. no powerbook!
rest? hahah
have a great time
Happy 10th Leo and Jennifer… may there be many more where that came from.
I agree with a large number of your other bloggers when it comes to leaving the notebook at home. If your anything like me though.. it will drive you crazy not to be getting done with some work when you have the extra time. It’s a curse that has haunted me since I was a little boy. Hopefully, if you do bring it it won’t interfere with the quality time that you can spend with Jennifer.
Have a good break… if anyone deserves it.. It’s you
Marty
Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer!
Since everyone else is giving you advice, here’s mine.
Don’t bring the computer! They zap up precious time when you’re someplace special.
Do bring a camera and plenty of film/memory , batteries, etc.
In Joy! Diana
(married since ’88)
Happy Anniversary Leo & Jennifer,
I agree with the majority here, leave the powerbook at home, let it collect dust for once.
Have fun,
Steph
Leo, three things:
1. I love TSS and TechTV, in general. I wish Comcast in New Haven, CT would carry the network (have tapes shipped from mom every now and then). (And yes, I call Comcast weekly to chew them out about it… that and FX).
2. Happy anniversary! May you and Jen have many many many more years of happiness.
3. LEAVE THE NOTEBOOK AT HOME. No interruptions this weekend, just spend some quality time with your wife… you two deserve it!
Take care of yourself and as always, keep up the great work.
– JV
Leo,
Happy Anniversery to you and Jennifer. Don’t you dare take that powerbook with you
You Deserve the time off! Have Fun!
Luke
You know, if you have any backbone, you’ll take that frickin’ laptop with you after all, just to spite all of us well-wishing busybodies! Really, have a great time.
– Brandon
Not to change the subject, but what is the brand of flat-panel screens do you use on the Tech Live set?
They look very nice, but I’d imagine quite expensive.
-luke
Wooo! Happy Anniversary, Leo! I was wondering why you were going to be dark on Friday. I guess you can’t ask “severe burn victim” Martin Sargent to fill in at this point.
Well, have fun on your Weekend O’ Luuuuv, and don’t bring the laptop. That is all.
Leo-
Happy aniversary! DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT UPDATING THE BLOG! Take time to enjoy life! Salud!
Congratulations Leo!
You should take some time off. Enjoy a second honeymoon. It should rekindle everything we tend to forget in daily life. I loved your show on Linux the other night and I plan to try it someday. I need a larger hard drive first though I think. I hope your site continues to grow and flourish as a friendly place to leave our comments. It is just the kind of treasure that makes the web an enjoyable visit.
When I first moved into the place where I currently reside I bought a computer. It was the top of the line back then or nearly so. I have since given it away and I’m using a piece of junk until I get the guts to upgrade. I did read the kind response and offer of help that one of you so kindly posted, and I do mean to reply, I just haven’t had the time. Anyway when I first started computing a few years back all we knew was email. We used aol and our knowledge of the web was limited as well as our access if any back then. To make a long story short a friend and I started writing to our favorite radio talk show. It was a shock jock type station and we wrote just for a laugh and to hear our stuff read on the air. It became a competition. Although I had inspiration some of my friend’s letters were almost diabolical. He won our bet to say the least. It has been many years now and I don’t think I will ever publish any of it. I once thought some of it was great, but the daily grind wears everything thinner and now I just think it was a passing fad which has little if any merit.
HAPPY 10TH
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. I SINCERELY HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT ONE.
Leave the powerbook at home.
take a break !!
Happy Anniversary!
Oh boy, I couldn’t pass this one up!
Have a very exciteing and happy annivercery Leo and Jennifer.
PARTY HARDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This’ll be before the big T.S.S road trip so you might as well
see the sights!
Enjoy!

Leo,
Happy 10th!
My husband and I just visited Big Sur (or tried to) last weekend for our 3rd anniversary. We live in the LA area and we drove up to Carmel for the Eastern weekend and had a wonderful time until Sunday rolled around. We were to drive back to LA via 1 and visit Big Sur and possibly the Hearst Castle. They had 1 closed at Big Sur due to rock slides and it had been that way for five days.
You may want to check with Cal Trans before you get too excited about visiting that beautiful coastline!
Have a great trip!
Kim
Happy 10th Anniversary Leo and Jennifer
May you have many many more!
Leo, I’d leave the Powerbook at home. Enjoy Big Sur and some time off.

John
Hey Leo, I know it aint easy to leave the machine behind. But do it. Congratulations on 10 years.
You deserve the rest, I know how it is working insane hours. When you enjoy what you do, it happens.
Thanks for the great shows, and also making us all laugh after hard days work. Being in the Anti Virus business I need to laugh every now and then.
Also thank you for reintroducing me to the mac. I just picked up an iBook due to all those segments on the mac, next is OSX !!!!
Hey leo what are you going to program yourself to dream about. hmm???
Happy Anniversary, Leo and Jen!
Leo, enjoy the day off (leave the Powerbook home this time) and we’ll look for you on Monday.
Enjoy!
This has nothing to do with the topic, but I thought it was interesting. If you look up The Screen Savers on IMDB (Internet Movie Database), at the end, it says:
Recommendations
If you like this title, we also recommend…
Entrapment (1999)
What TSS has to do with Entrapment, I have no idea.
Thank you ALL! I’m leaving the Powerbook behind, but I’ll report back here on Monday. Have a great weekend!
Good move Leo:)) ****-A-Doodle-Dooooooooooo
Good move Leo:) rooster crowing:)
Happy 10th Leo.
Leo,
Kudos to you! Great decision!
We’ll be fine without ya…It’s Jennifers turn for some of your attention! After all, she’s your biggest and best fan I’m sure! Congrats again to the both of you on ten years! Wishing you a lifetime of love together!
great job on the 10 years, leave the powerbook to rest this weekend.and just want to write ,thanks for the demo on the linux install.I’m writing this on corel linux.great huh?thanks leo.
Let me add my voice to the multitudes in congratulations. You are a lucky guy Leo. The fact that you know you’re a lucky guy and appreciate the fact speaks highly for you.
In your business (warning unsolicited outsider-looking-in advice follows!) it seems that perspective is one of the first things to go. I have a couple of high school buddies who moved out to California to become writers. I hadn’t talked to them in about ten years. It sometimes doesn’t seem like we are from the same planet any more!
As for your career, I think that if it was up to the people that actually watch you, that are informed and entertained by you, it would be a long lucrative and satisfying one. It’s going to take a monumental catastrophe or a personal decision for it not to be. I was very impressed by your jumping in to answer the call for the problem with cd-creator. It was obvious that you were familiar with the problem, had experianced it yourself and that you weren’t just being a “talking head”. I think that for the most part the strength of “The Screen Savers” is that most of the cast don’t come off as “posers”. You blow up chips and have frustrating problems just like people the real world (Poor Patrick, he will never live that down!) I hope that the media experts don’t tweak the format so much that your own personalities get glossed over. (Pet peeve: Lose the sounds when the banners go up and down as you interview guests it’s distracting and annoying.)
One other word of advice then I’ll stop writing what is rapidly becoming a novel. Good for you that you left the powerbook at home. Don’t get burned out, as much as you do with computers I’m amazed that you haven’t already.
Keep having fun!-
I do not appreciate the language that is in the previous post. The filter is there for a reason. I am sure that many of Leo’s younger fans also read this Blog. Let’s all try to be sensible adults and censor our own selves. The younger generation gets enough language off of TV and from school this should be at least a half way decent place for them to go to.
Leo
Just to clarify my comments. I was referring to Brandon’s post not Kevin’s.
I agree with you CharlieAnne. No one else on this blog seems to have a terrible problem with the censorship. Any intelligent human being should be able to state their opinion without the use of swears.
Marty
Clean up your act Bozo, there are kids that read the Blog.
Use some common sense.
You’re all the same person, right? Come on, guy. Read the post above yours.
– Brandon
leo will take care of it.
Yeh Brandon you were making a point but you didnt have to put those words in there.
CharlieAnne/Officer Bob/”.” –
I have made what I consider a very rational case for my action, and all I see in response are attacks. If you would care to point out why I am wrong, I would appreciate it. So far all of you (Officer Bob seems to have run out of aliases) have refrained from actually addressing my position.
Since Leo’s on vacation I’m not going to muck up his log any more, but I would hope that, in the future, if you differ with another human being you can do better than calling him “Bozo” and saying Leo’s gonna get you for this. It speaks rather poorly of you. It was my hope that I was making a stand for improved rather than degraded and childish communication, but apparently I have failed. Sorry, Leo.
– Brandon
Thanks, Nate — it was supposed to be self-evidently ironic and funny, swearing at censorware — I wasn’t actually cursing at all. I thought it was clear, but quite apparently it wasn’t, so anyone who was offended has my regrets.
Come on people, this is LEO’S blog for us to read and post comments about what he posts. Keep it nice and stop clogging things up with personal attacks.
Can’t we all just get along?
Happy 10th Anniversary Leo and Jennifer! May you have googles more!
Have a great (and computerless) weekend and get some rest!
Be good gang…this is supposed to be a place where we write about tech stuff, not to get into a big debate about censorship. We all know it is a big issue that really cant be resolved here.
Let this be a place where we can share thoughts with Leo, not argue whether
something was a cuss word, or not.
Sounds like Leo has enough issues to deal with.
I guess the thing I regret most about life is all people seem to think about is themselves. Of course we are and should be number one on our list but not to the exclusion of everyone else. It’s Leo’s tenth anniversary. I don’t know him, but I like and respect him mainly because I think he feels like I do about people. Giving of ourselves to others should be a way of life. Yes there are those who inspire the worst and only take all that you can give, but we have to continue our beliefs no matter how many stand in their way. I have a friend at work who I have a very hard time understanding, but even though he has ill conceived notions about many things he is still basically a decent guy where it counts. We have to accept each others faults along with our own. No one is perfect. Except for Leo of course. I wish him the happiest of anniversaries with his wife. They are both very lucky and I hope they keep their love alive forever.
Just wanted to Congratulate you and Jennifer on your 10th wedding anniversary. My wife wants to go to the Big Sur soooooooooo bad on our anniversary.(we live in alabama) this june th 10th will be our first anniversary and we are both elated that we made it through our first year!
Congrats you and Jennifer….I agree with what Charlotte said in the 4th reply. 10th anniversaries are rare. And yeah…anniversaries are moreimportant than doing TechLive and “The Screen Savers”–especially if it’s the 10th…:)
Oh, yeah, and leave the Powerbook. You just need a camera to tape the event. Also, Jen might deserve her little chunk of the site as a 10th anniversary present…
Congratulations on your 10th wedding anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Laporte! You deserve a break Mr. Laporte so might I suggest that you leave anything that is related (or even remotely related) to “work”. Again, my congratulations. Happy Anniversary.
I Hope u had A good Anniversary. We all need a Break once in a while. Cya back on Screen Savers Mon.
Leave the powerbook at home and take a second honeymoon.
Happy Anniversary Leo and Jennifer
Our 12th Year anniversary is this sunday
Eric
One note, Brandon (and others). All IP addresses of ALL postings are logged. I can also ban IP addresses. I would hate to ban anyone, but can if necessary.
I enabled the censor (and chose the words myself) to avoid having to continually scan the comments for objectionable posts. The alternative is to disallow comments entirely. This is the first time I’ve ever allowed people to post to my web page. I am aware of the risks but on the whole it’s been a great success. All I as is that people act in a manner that is appropriate for guests in my home. Most of you have been wonderfully gracious and I thank you for that.
Leo,
First off, thanks for the blog, not only is it a great interaction between fans and yourself. But your right, this is your web page, your home, and you have allowed us to contribute in any manner that we see fit. The only thing you ask, is that people respect this space as they would if they were sitting on your couch. Not only do I not think thats not a lot to ask, but its just the right thing to do.
Thanks for taking the chance on this experiment. I for one find this one of the first places I check out when I log on.
Aaron
Leo, welcome back. I’ve already explained myself ad infinitum, and apologized (most of which has been removed above).
I always assumed that all IP addresses (and http headers) are logged; you don’t need to threaten me. I am again sorry to have sullied your blog. Take care and good luck.
– Brandon
Leo,
I offer my deepest apologizes for my behavior in my earlier post. Thank you Leo for offering us a place to interact with you and all of the other techies. Just like Aaron this is one of the first places I log into. Once again thank you for the chance that this Blog offers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brandon,
I wish to extend my apology to you. I did not intend to make it personal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fellow Bloggers,
I wish to include all of you in this also. This entry was about Leo and Jennifer’s Anniversary not my personal soapbox.
Regards,
(CharlieAnne)
Leo,
Thanks for this blog and for sharing so much of your private and professional doings with of us. Thanks also for allowing anyone to freely post comments with a minimum of restrictions.
A few observations:
In reaction to the blog’s auto filtering software, Brandon chooses to post a message containing vulgar language which clearly offended other readers of the blog. The post was subsequently removed from the thread.
When others expressed their displeasure at Brandon’s post, he chooses to personally attack them with comments about their lack of intelligence and how they never have posted up until that point (?), etc. This post has also been removed.
Then when Leo sees all of this going on, he posts a polite reminder to Brandon and all of us that he has the capability to ban users from his blog, and he asks that all of us behave in a gracious fashion. Brandon chooses to respond by accusing Leo of threatening him. And while he says he is sorry, his other comments make the apology sound hollow.
Has this little episode angered me? Yes. Am I feeling particularly gracious toward Brandon? No. In my view, he’s an immature dope, and deserves to be told so. I’m sure there are others here who would agree.
