Qik just sent me a beta release of their new iPhone app. You can use it to stream live video from the iPhone. It’s viewable at Qik.com and is stored there as well. This does not require jailbreaking - this is an official app that will be available in the iTunes App store soon.
Considering there’s no video recording on the iPhone, this is pretty amazing. Here’s my first attempt. One thing I’ve learned: hold the phone still!
I’m looking forward to using this to stream video when I’m out and about. You can follow twitlive on Twitter for notices when I stream live from the phone.

We had an odd visitor this morning at the TWiT Cottage.

Strange. He always seems to show up this time of year.

Amber and I interview Jason Goldberg of the new social news site Social|Median on tonight’s net@night (you can listen in the player to the right).
Social|Median has just launched its Election 2008 site in conjunction with the Washington Post. It’s a great way to follow the election news. You can follow me there - I’m leolaporte.

Here’s a weird kind of fame. Brady Redfearn sent me this reCAPTCHA he got recently when logging into his Live Journal page.

I use reCAPTCHA myself on the Contact me page. It’s a cool project from CMU that uses user-power to type in unrecognizable words from scanned texts while discouraging robots and spammers.
I think I remember a Laporte in Alexandre Dumas’s The Three Musketeers. Maybe they’re scanning that?

Even if you’re for McCain, you have to admit Obama’s got better user generated content…

Liana Lehua, a podcaster and friend who has appeared on many of our shows, fell seriously ill several weeks ago and her studio in San Francisco is about to be closed because of it.
This is the first I’ve heard of it and I’m shocked and saddened. I’m not sure what we can do right now, but I’ll let you know if I learn anything. Meanwhile, I’m sending good thoughts her way.
UPDATE: While I think the attempt to buy the Podango studios is probably a worthwhile effort, it’s important to decouple it from Liana’s condition. They’re two entirely separate issues. I’m focusing my attention on her right now. If a fund to help Liana becomes necessary, I’ll be the first to donate and encourage you to do so, too. I know she is guaranteed employment regardless of what happens to the former Podango studio.

Thanks to Qwitter, now I’ll know when people stop following me on Twitter.
Of course, Gruber stopped following me years ago.
