You may notice that there’s nowhere on this site with an email address. That’s because I get far too much email already: Too much to answer; often too much even to read, hundreds of messages an hour. All of it’s important, I know, and it breaks my heart to have to ignore it, but if I didn’t I’d have time to do nothing else.

If you’re a PR professional with a press release, product information, or a guest pitch, check the PR page. If you are looking for an interview with me for your own program email requests@twit.tv.

Here are some of the answers I’ve been known to send out:

Yes, it’s a terrible thing about TechTV. Comcast really screwed the pooch, but truth is all of us are doing much better than we were before. Jim Louderback, Kevin Rose, Patrick Norton, Martin Sargent, Sarah Lane, Jessica Corbin, and many of the old TechTV folks are at Revision 3 producing tons of good content. Roger Chang and Robert Heron produce DL.TV for ZD. My TWiT Netcast Network produces over 50 hours of audio content a month and has more listeners than TechTV ever had viewers. And there are many many other netcasts inspired by TechTV like Hak.5, Digital Underground.tv, and Command-N. Frankly, it’s a golden age of technology programming, and thanks to the Internet, it’s available to many more people worldwide than TechTV ever was. We all miss TechTV, but we’re really excited about the revolution it started!

No you can’t visit me in my studio, it’s really small and messy and I get self-conscious. I don’t have time to meet with you for lunch or a cup of coffee either. No offense, I’m sure you’re a great person, I’m just really anti-social and really really busy. And you can’t visit the set of the television show – we don’t have anywhere safe to put a studio audience.

I appreciate your sending along information about your product, service, web site, brilliant idea, or podcast proposal. I wish you all the best. I will read it and store it away for future reference. I don’t meet with vendors, so please don’t ask. TWiT.tv isn’t looking for any more podcasts either, but good luck with your show!

Advertising Sales for TWiT is handled through Mark McCrery at Podtrac – they do our metrics and media kit and can help you make sure advertising on TWiT is right for you. We charge $70 per thousand listeners – so an ad on one of our podcasts can cost from $350-$10,000 depending on how popular the show is. Thanks so much for your support!!

There are three good, free, anti-virus programs I recommend:

AVG
Avast
Anti-vir

But the best anti-virus I know is NOD32 from eset. It’s very lightweight and highly effective. I do not recommend McAfee or Norton these days. They’re just too bloated.

Leo doesn’t have a definitive answer for the PC vs Mac question, but he generally says, “Windows for business, Macs for home.”

Unless you’re a PC gamer, or have specific Windows software you have to run, a Mac is almost always a better choice for content creation, email, web surfing, and all the other things home users do. And there are no viruses or spyware on the Mac to worry about!

I have three free programs I recommend for fighting spyware:

Microsoft Defender (XP and W2K only)
Spybot Search & Destroy
AdAware

The best commercial programs are Spysweeper and Pest Patrol but I don’t find they’re particularly better. I recommend using the free ones to scan and turning on the Real Time Protection in Microsoft’s Defender.

Frankly, the best ways to fight spyware is not to get it in the first place. That means using the free Firefox or IE 7 with protection turned on for day-to-day surfing, avoiding music sharing programs, and being very careful when you visit web sites. Avoid allowing them to install software.

Good luck! Spyware is the worst problem on Windows these days!

Thanks so much for writing. Unfortunately due to the volume of mail I get I just don’t have the ability to answer individual questions. I’ll keep your question in mind for use on the TV or radio show, though.

You might search my radio show web site for an answer. I’ve also found that searching Google can be helpful – and don’t forget to click the Groups tab – the newsgroups are a great place to find help.

If you’d like to ask your question on my syndicated radio show call 1-88-88-ASK LEO from 11a-2p Pacific weekends.

I appreciate hearing from you. I hope you understand why I can’t be of much help!

Now if you’ve read this and you’re still determined to email me click here. You’ll have to jump through one more hoop designed to deter spammers and you’ll get my email address. Please understand that you’re very likely wasting time and bits and launching your missive into oblivion, but it’s not because I don’t want to answer you. Honest!
