Well, not exactly, but the Call-For-Helpathon did make the cover of the Sunday New York Times television section, and that’s even better as far as I’m concerned. This is from the NYC local editions:

The national edition had a black and white picture, plus the title screen from The Screen Savers and a picture of Martin Sargent on page 12 of the Sunday Sports/TV section. You can also read Michel’s excellent article about us in at the New York Times online, free registration required.

National edition article

The 12 hour telethon is this Friday, December 26, from 11a-11p Eastern. Don’t forget to watch as I slowly melt into a puddle!

You will not melt into a puddle. Melt into a blithering mess of a man, perhaps. Pirillo didn’t exactly lose all control after his brief period of instanity. He collected himself rather quickly, after some support from his fellow crew members. One thing interesting, and what you may catch yourself doing, is answering a question that has already been answered. It’s akin to being up for two or three days without sleep. Time slows down and it’s hard to focus. Grab a chair, appoint a coffee-runner, and have the cardboard Leo standing by in case you need to step out for a breath of fresh air. Good luck. See you Friday.

I’ll be watching and taping. Good luck to you all that day!

I am soooooo looking forward to this!

Cmon, Leo. You will make it through the whole thing–Paul will give you a break, won’t he? It’s not as if you are going to fall asleep. 8 am to 8 pm PST is not that late. You may just lose your voice.

5:48 AM, up wrapping some last minute Christmas presents Leo?

I read that article online, what great publicity, about time you people started getting some national recognition! I’m burrowing in for the duration on Friday with mega food, snacks, and video tapes to record it for posterity. There is no question in my mind with your boundless energy you’ll breeze right through those 12 hours. Best of luck!

Good luck Leo! I watched the previous Call for help a thon with Pirillo and I think you will fair much better than he did. Although, I must say that he did handle it quite well. I was also glad to see that picture in the New York Times with the picture! Yaay! Maybe as a suprise you could ask Megan Morrone and Annabella to stop by! Yeah! that’d be cool! Anyway, wishing you the best of luck and if you need extra help dont hesitate to ask Patrick Norton Im sure as a friend and collegue he’d help out some too.

Glad to see some excellent marketing for TechTV! Hope there will be more to come on that front. As viewers, there is only so much we can do to spread the word. I tell everyone I know about CFH & TSS! We will be watching & taping your whole Call-For-Helpathon. Wouldn’t miss it for anything! You’ll be great Leo, as usual. Good luck to everyone!

  12. Anonymous on December 24th, 2003 12:53 am

I’m going to miss part of it… And I don’t know anyone who could tape the entire thing. Will there be a reshowing of it, say on Saturday?

  13. Anonymous on December 24th, 2003 1:06 am

Hey, I do tech support for 8 hours a day, this shouldnt be THAT hard. I’ll try to call in late in the show!

with Patrick and his trusty sledge, who turned out the light?

Twas the day before the night before Christmas, and Yoshi ruled the land

with a dark demise not far behind though Sarah stayed his hand

Twas the day before the night before Christmas, as if you had any doubt

Foo shook his fist,oh man he looked pissed, Merry Christmas good night get out

How would Leo re-act if he passed out? That I would really want to know. lol

Anyho, good luck on the marathon, Leo. I’ll be missing the first 4-5 hours of it, unfortunately :(

    Cheers. (from Ontario, Canada)

Hopefully, I won’t have to work tomorrow. If I do, I’ll try to watch as much of it as I can.

Yup. Tech Tv is mainstream now. I gave a friends child the toy Total Meltdown which I saw demonstrated on Tech Tv. It was a big hit and the family asked how I knew about it? I said, “Tech Tv had it on a toy segment”. The parents didn’t know about the channel, but the college aged son said, “Oh yeah. I watch it all the time.”

THANKS for keeping us informed and entertained. It’s great to see your good work and the channel get the recognition it deserves.

Don’t worry Leo, you wont melt into a puddle!!! I plan on watching all 12 hours, I couldn’t watch all 18 hours last year because my sister doesn’t like TechTV and wanted to watch a Flintstones marathon (Sarcastically laughs). Oddly, enough there is a flintstone marathon this year too!?!? I cant tape it all but I sure will watch.

PS. I already missed the first 30 min of the second hour! (Yes, my sister was watching the flintstones)

Only three more hours. Keep up the good work!

Oh, and for you clock watchers:

    Leo;

This would be a piece of cake for me. My schedule using runs like this. I get up at 3-3:15am every morning and don’t usually get to bed until 11:30pm-midnight. If I only knew as much as you and your staff of helpers knew about computers I probably wouldn’t sleep that much. In any case look at it like another of life’s great problems to be solved in only 12 hours. Thanks for the great shows on TechTv.

    Glen Burnie

Ps: you didn’t get around to answering my question on the air so if you or one of your trusty co-workers could answer it via email I would greatly appreciate it.

Great show. I, here in Indonesia have a great time watchin that Call A-Thon show. It is just too bad that i can’t watch all that 12 hour show :) (I’m just too tired, wondering how leo could do that) Just keep up the good work, and merry christmas, happy new year to you all.

Says here that you didn’t melt into a puddle. Also says here that you did a fantastic job. Thank you and congratulations.

  30. Anonymous on December 27th, 2003 6:48 pm

Great job on the help-a-thon, Leo! We were watching from the Philippines, and loved every minute of it.

  31. Anonymous on December 27th, 2003 9:01 pm

Good job, MUCH better than last year, last year’s was too silly, had to give up on it after a couple of hours, this year’s was fun, and much better structure. I thought Kevin & Sarah spots were well done and had good chemistry together. Jessie’s presence made it more fun, wish she could have made it earlier. I figure Cat is their only for the young boys, and she accomplished that OK.

I give it a 9 out of 10, WELL DONE.
